I'm just wondering if your really getting a quality puppy when purchasing from a  so called reputable breeder.   When I decided to purchase my first boxer I didn't really know the difference between a backyard breeder and a reputable breeder.  I bought my first puppy from local backyard breeder.  He is 8 years old now and the only issue a I had with him was that he came down with demodix mange a few years ago.   I had him treated for it but now he has a few bald spot.   Recently I decided to purchase another boxer.  After a long search I decided to purchase a puppy from this so called reputable breeder in Idaho , Lucky # Boxers, who claimed to be a show dog breeder.

Well, the first problem when I recieved my puppy was it did not came with all the vacination records, no purchase contract, no pedigree history and no AKC registration proof, like I had with my first boxer.  Attempted several time to contact the breeder and it took them two weeks to response back saying that they will mail it out.  Well, 3 weeks later nothing yet.  I'm just about had it with this so called reputable breeder.   Another thing is when I took my new pup to the vet, they diagnos her with ear mites and round worms, this is some thing that a reputable breeer should have taken care of before shipping the puppy.   Now I'm wondering if I made the right purchase.

So, tell me, am I the only one who had  this  problem or did any one else came across a similiar problem.

That is a shame. (crosses fingers and hope my breeder is good) Did they "SAY" that there was a spay/neuter contract, and warranty, pedigree history, AKC papers? or did you assume they would give that to you? I am checking the medical records of the parents, BEFORE purchasing the pups. I also followed the blood lines. Hard to do that after the purchase is made, since you will be attached to the dog already, and your money will be attached to their wallet. :(

I think this is a big reason why I took about half a year trying to find a local breeder. I don't have enough guts to take a chance on a delivery purchase. Hope you get it worked out. At least the Vet visit problems will be cured, nothing hereditary type problems.

That really is a shame.. i have to agree as far as did all these subjects come up in your conversations with the breeder? A reputable breeder IMO would not do a purchaser that way..All of those documents should have been with your pup when he arrived..My first boxer I got from a somewhat BYB, but she did provide me all those documents...The only thing I can suggest is to keep trying to get in contact with the breeder..Be persistent and firm and definitely let them know of the health problems you are encountering..To answer your question, yes the pups SHOULD  have had a wellness check prior to him being shipped to you. I know Rhonda provided me with all the documentation for Flick

No, there was nothing mentioned about spay/neuter contract.  I found her after a few month search through this online puppy finder.  A website was listed and  an email address was given.  I hdad contacted with the breeder several time with questions, warranty  and current pictures of the pup and parents before purchasing the puppyl   Looking at their website made me think that they were a reputalbe breeder.  They have several dogs that they were showing.  Pedigree history, current vaccination and AKC papers was stated on the online purchase contract.  I'm just hoping that there's no other problem on my next vet visit.
Thanks.

Most of the questions i would have asked the breeder have already been stated. A reputable breeder should have had the paperwork there and had it signed prior to shipping a puppy. Is the kennel is Lewiston. ID?? i ask because i searched and if so their dogs are very beautiful, but i unfortunatley am not big in the show ring world so dont know how reputable this kennel is. I bet once heather see this thread she can give us some good insight.

The kennel is located in  Juliaetta, ID.   I don't know if I can give out the actual kennel/breeder name, it might be against the forum rules?  If you look in there website  and go through the puppies page, I purchase the flashy brindle girl.  Yes, their dogs are great looking and that is why I did not think twice in purchasing her from them.   Now......well different thinking.

We got our dog Shamrock from Lucky 7 too. The breeders are nice but Amey is so hard to reach. We live in Hawaii and waited 9 months to get him-they kept him that whole time without charging us. But, he did have an ear infection. We show him now and I really wanted the breeders to see pics of him in the ring but they never got back to my e-mail about it. It's too bad because I would have liked for them to see him.

I guess each experience is different, however they are AWFUL about communication. We considered taking legal action while waiting for him because they would take up to three weeks to get back to us-in the end it all worked out so hopefully it will for you too.

Yep...that is what got their attention when we could not reach them. My husband threatened to contact Navy legal and use all the e-mails as evidence in case they bailed on us. However, I must say that it takes a lot to hold a dog for 10 months (as my husband reminds me) and deliver not charging for all the time that they could have sold him. He was expensive (1500) but his is a wonderful member of the family and totally worth it.

Good luck and hope it works out for you

Thanks,  funny is that when I ask the breeder about pictures of the parents they sent me pictures with name on them,  the dam name is Sonja and the sire name is Shamrock, a fawn boxer.   Don't know if this is coincidence or what.  Thanks again

It all depends on what your definition of reputable breeder is?

They can say they show, they do this do that but IMO to see it is better to hear it.   Also cannot judge a breeder by a website either.   I saw their website and see nothing on health testing besides one of their studs.  They bred to dogs that they own.   Most rep breeders dont have the perfect match in their own back yard hence why 98% of the time breeders go to others breeders to find the dogs that match up to what their dogs lacks.    Again I do not know them so really cannot jusge them.  They could be a new kennel just learning what it takes to be reputable.   However if a pup was sold on full reg and is not a show prospect IMO they are not doing enough to protect the boxer population nor their lines.   Your lines are what make you who you are in the breeding world.  You need to protect them because IMO you are only as good as the dogs you produce and the families you select to have your pups.

Good Luck and hope they learn to communicate better - having that connection and person available when ever you need them for anything - questions, updates etc, IMO is part of the deal of purchasing from a reputable breeder:)

Their female Josie was bred at 1.5 years old.  She did get her cardiac test 11-05 7 month after having a litter.  You can get an echo, but you need holters to rule out anything.   Many breeders think that just because you pass your echo, your dog is heart cleared -  :naughty: nope need to have the holters.

Dadee,

I am shocked if Shamrock was breed before we got him considering that he will only be 2 in July, according to the papers. We got him in November...I wonder why they never told us that he was sired. Seems pretty strange that they would have two fawn boys named Shamrock considering that we picked his name. I suppose I don't care that he was sired but am curious as to why they would not mention that-wow, what a way to find out stuff, huh? I guess I should not jump to conclusions but if you talk to them, I would love to find out! Thx

From the way it sounds, I have some serious doubts that this breeder is actually a "reputable" one.
Hope everything else is okay with your puppy though!

Theresa,
Sorry,  unable to attach picture.  I'm new at this and still trying to figure out how to attach pictures. It's pretty hard to tell from the one picture they sent me if he's your Shamrock.   If you want I could send you the picture and you could determand if he is your Shamrock.

thanks every one for your reply.
