Question about dog parks

I see alot of people on here talking about dog parks. What exactly do you mean by this? Are these parks that are specifically made for dogs or are you talking about regular recreational parks for people? If there are parks made for specifically for dogs are they fenced in areas?Where and how would I go about finding one in my area?I couldnt take Jake to a park yet because he has not had all of his shots yet but my wifes dog would be in heaven.I am pretty sure that her dog could run 80 mph for at least 4 hours straight.Any help on this issue would be great

Oh yes, we have parks around here specifically for dogs.
yup. we have one near us that has to areas, one for small dogs and one for big dogs.. Patch loves it.
yeah its specifically for dogs...
We have two in the area, one fenced (membership required)and one not fenced (no membership). The one we belong go to does require membership; its only $15.00 a year and well worth it.  They are going to open another one (membership) in the town next to us which is only 15-20 minutes away.  If it is as nice as ours then we will join that one also.  There are mixed feelings about dog parks as some have had good experiences and others have had bad ones.  We have a park patrol (not a full time position) but the person lives just up the street so she is there often.
We have tried a couple by us. This weekend was our second time. The ones by us aren't that great though. They're fenced in but not that big and they are filled w/ dirt/sand and no grass. Fredo still has a blast though. There were two other boxers there yesterday and he had the time of his life. He was getting picked on by a black lab and the other boxer, his new gf..lol were kind of teaming up against the lab it was so funny. I have to say though that seeing him in a pack dynamic,  you can really see their personalities. Fredo is always the most submisive dog, rolling over for everyone. lol
Yes, Dog Parks usually pertain to a park where your dog can be legally off-leash. You can do a google seaarch for Off-leash parks for your area or just try "Dog Park+'citynamehere'" in the search as well. They are a blast and loved by almost all dogs. Some are open fields and some are like Fredosmom said, "fenced in but not that big and they are filled w/ dirt/sand and no grass".
we dont have to pay for our dog park
Another option you may want to check into is boxer meetup groups. I added a link, so you can see if there is one close to you

Cool thanks for the link. There is not one around my area but it looks like they are trying to get one together about an hour from here.I also found 2 parks that are within 45 mins from here. One of them has a membership fee of $150.00 per year plus $5 per visit.Plus your pet has to be fixed. The other is a public fenced in area with a pond for swimming and it looks like it is pretty big too_Oh yeah and its free!!!!!
We have a ton of them in the seattle area, they are all over and they have have dog swimming areas.
Personally I think you would have to be quite desperate to pay 150 bucks a year plus 5 per visit but this is just my opinion. Is this a typical fee?

i was reading through this thread and i followed the link and found one in chicago i did not even know existed. our first meet is in 2 weeks, thanks for the info! :D
We paid $25.00 for the year and I think it it well worth it.  Ours is HUGE, fenced in, grass and really clean.  Couldn't ask for much more.  There is also a palce for the dogs to swim, but only in the summer months.

Typically the "dog parks" that charge money provide some level of oversight and therefore have some liability (although they'll probably ask you to sign away the ability to hold them liable).  For example, where Lola goes to doggy daycare they have a dog park and it has a cost associated with it (I believe $60 per year).  But they require documentation that your dog is up to date on all their shots and they will do a review of your dog to make sure it is not aggressive.  At a free dog park you can have any type of riff raff bringing their dog.
Yep that sounds more reasonable to me.25 a year and even 60 a year dont seem to bad.I just think that 150 plus 5 per visit is crazy and you cant join til you have your pet spayed or neutered.
