Hello everyone! A few months ago I got a female boxer from a friend and she was the runt of the litter. For weeks 12-20 she was gaining weight but for the last three weeks its been really slow. She probably gained 1 lbs in that period. Right now shes only 22lbs and shes a little over 5 months. I feed her 2x a day but she doesn't always eat. We are feeding her replenish all life stages food mixed with replenish wet food. She however drinks a ton of water, to the point shell drink so much she will vomit and keep drinking. She seems to have a water addiction. She's been like this since we got her. I told our vet and she said its normal, puppies drink allot of water. I have set up another vet apt this weekend to get some testing done, but I'm getting worried since she seems to be really skinny. Anyone have any recommendations to get her weight up and also her water fixation? I am trying to limit her water intake but she's always trying to drink from the toilet or drinking her pee. I stop giving her water at 7pm and at least once a week she's soil her crate. I have to let her out every 4 hours at night to use the bathroom.

I plan on doing that after we have the appointment this weekend if they don't find anything. I'm going to see a different doctor at the same vet, its just that the place I'm going to right now has the best reviews in my area.

I don't let her drink from the toilet, I have caught her 2 times doing it after I took away her water bowl. We have a lock on the door now so she cannot get in.

She drinks the same water as we do, it's a 2 stage filtration system. Then there's another filter on our refrigerator.
Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.

She did get dewormed about 2 months ago and she got a check up a month ago when she got her rabies shot and they said she was healthy. That's pretty much when she started not gaining any weight.

Oh wow that's good to hear. I took advice and made some satin balls. Looks like she's liking it. She's still not touching her kibble. I'm thinking maybe she is allergic? She's been on that dog food for about a month.

So I was told she has a liver shund and also bad kidneys. The vet said it might be operable depending the second set of x-rays. So I guess it ended up being the worst case scenario.

So I took Rosie to a different vet for a second opinion and they gave me different results. They did X-rays, blood and urine tests and they said she doesn't have a shund but she does have have one bad kidney and the good one is infected. They took culture samples to find out what kind of bacteria it is so they can give her the right proscription. I'll know hopefully by Monday.
My question is when they did the X-rays they asked about what I was feeding her. I told him I've bee giving her satin balls and raw food. They advised against that and told me to stick with kibble such as Eukanuba. They advised giving raw food. My question is, did they tell me that because of her liver? Ever since I switched Rosie to raw food she went from being 18lbs to 23 lbs in a matter of a week. Her coat looks like its shining and she has allot more energy. She's back to being the same pup before she started acting weird. Should I go back to kibble or keep with feeding her raw?

I took her off of raw until she finishes her medication and the saline bag. Right now she's eating Ble Buffalo Wilderness for puppy. I did notice she's not gaining weight as fast as when I had her on raw.
