Lucy was spayed in October. When it was first done, she had a significant lump there but vet said not to worry because some dogs have a reaction to the suture material. Well, it did go down eventually but then yesterday I noticed a lump on her stomach. It is quite large (about the size of a silver dollar) and it is right where her spay incision was. It is a bit red right there but doesn't seem to bother her in the least. Does anyone have ideas? Should I just watch her for the next couple of days or does it seem like something serious?

I made an appt for the vet to see her on Monday. It just seems strange that it is right where the incision was...

probably best that way they can rule out if it's anything serious, and good piece of mind....I know I also get kinda worried when I find stuff on Gaby...but hey we can't help it we just love our babies so much!

I would say to watch it but also go in to have it looked at.  Generally the internal stitches (subcutaneous layer) is closed with a type of suture that dissolves over several months and can depend on the type used.  This is generally the layer that they have a reaction to.  Fiona had a reaction to them as well.....  It normally presents itself as a knot as you describe.

Just be advised that it could also be something else like a bite, maybe try a little benedryl.....If that is the case it will go down by Monday.  If it is a reaction to the sutures they will probably put her on some medicine.....very worst case senerio they would have to go back in and remove the stitch's........

Thanks Sharon! I will try the benadryl this afternoon when I get home from work. Just seems weird that it went down to normal like a week or two after we got her but just now it is flaring up and swelling again...Hopefully, it is just a bite and she will be fine.
