Teaching a timid Boxer socail skills with new people is essentail to your Boxer's happiness.  Here is an easy way to do it:

NOTE: THIS METHOD CAN BE USED ANYWHERE, NOT JUST AT HOME!!!

When you hear a knock on the door or the doorbell ring, put your Boxer on their lead and tell them, "Let's see who's here!"

Open the door and allow the person to come just inside the threshhold.  Shut the door.  Have the person ignore your Boxer and talk quietly with you.  When your Boxer shows curiosity in the person (moving forward to sniff etc...) , ask the person to squat down at an angle, with their arms relaxed at their sides or draped in a relaxed fashion over their knees.  Have them continue to ignore you Boxer.  When you Boxer shows interest (moving forward to sniff), have the person turn their hand (hand closest to your Boxer), palm up and flat and lift it slightly to your Boxer for closer examination while continuing to ignore your Boxer.  MAKE SURE THE PERSON DOES NOT TOUCH YOUR BOXER!!! When your Boxer is comfortable with this, have the person offer your Boxer a treat, palm up and flat, for your Boxer's enjoyment while continuing to ignore your Boxer.  When your Boxer is comforatble taking treats from the person, the person can begin to speak softly and calmly to the dog (NO UNSOLICITED TOUCHING).  When your Boxer shows further interest, the person can attempt to pet your Boxer from the underneathe, touching only under the chin, behind the ears and the chest.  When your Boxer is comfortable with this, you can move the interaction into the main portions of the house (also do this sitting on the couch, at a table, etc...so that your Boxer learns that new people are okay everywhere in your house).

Lots of treats and praise help this to work!!

REMEMBER:  Go at your Boxer's pace and if at anytime your Boxer appears to be uncomfortable or fearful, STOP, go back a step, and go slower!!!  Time and patience win this battle!!!

Good luck and Lilly and I know you can do it!!!   Keep up the good work!!!
