Well, it's almost that time!  Time for the Holmes House to pack up and go to Oklahoma for a week.  Oy!

Last year on our way to OK for Thanksgiving, our Rocky died.  I know that's not going to happen this year with Henry, but I'm still nervous about the trip. :sigh:

Ken (hubby) is one of 6 children.  All of whom are married and have kids.  Ken's dad is not doing too well these days and we don't know if this will be our last Thanksgiving with him.  So all of the siblings and their families are going to be there.  Add it all up and that's 24 1/2 people! 8O   1/2 because one of the sisters is pregnant.   And they don't want Henry in the house.  They don't understand the special place our dog has in our lives!  Most of them have even told us to just leav him at home.  As if! :x   So I'm nervous about that too.

Any advice?  Prayers would be appreciated too.

Thanks guys!

You aren't staying at there house are you? If not you can take him with you and leave him in his crate or (even though I don't really like this personally) tie you dog outside and go out every so often to make sure he is ok.  My aunt doesn't allow Duke in the house either, but she has a huge fenced backyard and a heated garage so I don't have a problem leaving him out there (and after she goes to bed I sneak him downstairs with me ;) ) I know evil but he can't sleep by himself.

I hope you find a solution.

I'd stay in a hotel that allows pets and just leave him there while you go to dinner if they won't allow him in their home.  Other than that, I guess the only option is to stay home or leave him at a kennel.  Just doesn't seem fair, he is part of the family and should be allowed to go  .

Yeah, I was really surprised when my in-laws let us bring Koa up to SF with us.  They're not dog people but since he's still a pup, they let him stay at the house.  Now, they ask for pictures of him!  Hahaha... we'll see what happens when he's full grown.

When we're planning vacations now, we're looking for hotels that allow dogs.

Before my grandparents passed away, my aunt and uncle would ALWAYS bring the vizla (sp?) and 3 poms with them. My grandparents wouldnt allow them inside...mostly because there simply wasnt room. My dad is one of 9 children, so once you get spouses, children and grandchildren in the 3 bedroom house...well things could get tight. Most of the time my aunt usually ended up not staying for but an hour and then she left. so...after this big long story.    all i could say is i would try and find a pet friendly hotel. that would be the best solution, most people dont understand how much our babies mean to us.

I would say stay in a hotel that allows dogs. Or maybe a friend could take him for the week...I know when my MIL came over from England for two weeks. She left her two Afghans with a friend and payed him for keeping them. She had a very bad experience with leaving them in kennels so no more of that!

Good luck and hope you find a solution that works for you.

I won't be allowed to bring Tink and Hector to my mum's for Christmas either   One of my brother's kids are terrified of dogs and my other brother and his son are HIGHLY allergic to them, so unfortunately they'll have to stay at home for the day.

Oh my goodness. 24 1/2 people in 3 bedrooms? Yikes! Well since hotels are out of the question, I guess Ken's idea would work...There is no way, if I was driving would I leave my babies home for a week, unless I had a trusted place to board them...As your FIL is ill, I can understand the need to go and it is a shame that no one understands the bond we have with our furkids.
