I've had Lola for over a year now, I got her last March and she was constantly scratching her ears and neck, licking & biting at her paws and legs, and had the worst eye boogers.  After changing foods several times, cutting out all wheat & corn, buying special shampoos and started giving her yogurt.....all of the above stopped.  So, I thought it was a food allergy and we nipped it in the butt.

WRONG!

All of the above is back in full force - so I'm now thinking it's seasonal allergies.  Poor thing is scratching and biting like mad.  Is there anything I can do or give her to help ease the itchiness?  I'm going to start her back on the Benadryl and Genesis Spray.

Should I switch food again?  She's currently eating Purina Pro Plan Sensative Skin & Stomach.

Thanks!

If she did well on the food I would leave it otherwise you won't know if the new food is causing problems or it is allergy problems.  Once the allergy is gone then you may want to test some other foods.

thor used to get hives from the grass in his first year.  a lite dose of benedryl took care of the itchies and i would use an oatmeal lotion i got from the vet on his skin.

If you dont think its the food, then IMO dont switch again.   Hanna is alergy queen - on raw, meds anything and everything but has seasonal alergies - its a nightmare.   We cut the grass and she broke out in hives. Poor thing.  I just make sure I have Termil - P and genesis spray on hand for flareups.   Poor lola- I feel your pain!!

I have Mr Itchy Boy too.  I use Benadryl 3 times a day at the 2 caps dose and wash his feet off often and bath him once a week with Eqyss Shampoo.  No easy solution for them other than wait for the allergens to die down!  I am trying a new herbal supplement and if it works well I will report back to all on this forum.

What about an oatmeal bath??? Get some Quaker oatmeal (not the instant) put a good 2 cups into some pantyhose and tie it off. throw in the tub and bath her in it with no shampoo or anything and see if that helps.

I am seeing tons of itchy patients right now....it is the "blooming" season and all then itchy ones are coming out.....Benedryl is a good option to start, then soap free shampoos or medicated shampoo like Sulfa Oxy Dex or Malaseb....also you can try bathing in Selsom Blue shampoo (not very often or it will dry) or soaking their feet in it....you can also try a baking soda bath.....

If all else fails then you may need an allergey injection or Tem-P tablets.......

I would not change foods because the food seems to be working (taking that from the statement that you thought it was gone) if the food were the issue it would not have got better.....sounds like seasonal allergy and I agree it is a pain!

Wow, poor Lola Bear..Alicia, how frustrating for you...I have to agree tho, I wouldn't change the food, she's doing good on it...Angel has had a bit of the eye goobers, but thankfully that's about it.Allergies do seem to be really bad this year..Hoping Lola gets to feeling better

Thanks for everyones advice and well wishes!  I'm going to try everything!!!

Nano - def report back on the herbal supplement, I'm interested to see if it works!

Poor girl looked like she felt like crap last night.  She'll usually lay on "her side" of the couch while we're watching tv, but last night she climbed on top of my lap, then when we went to bed she basically slept on my head....like she just couldn't get close enough last night.....so I know she's feeling icky.   :(

Poor Lola!! Allergies really stink! Just when you think you found the cure.....there they are again! I've been battling too, but just in the past couple of weeks the itching has become more intense again. Must be environmental.  :(
