Hi everyone.
I'm new here.
I really need some help though. My 7 year old boxer is having some serious health problems. About a month ago she started having trouble walking. She seemed stiff in her legs and was having trouble on the steps. She wanted to be laying down all the time. The only time she would stand was to eat or drink and when going outside to go to the bathroom. She has had an increased thirst and appetite but she has lost atleast 5 pounds and is very weak. We have taken her to two different vets now. Blood tests have shown that her liver enzymes are high. She has had two ultrasounds done. The only thing that seemed out of place was that her liver was a little lighter than usual dog ultrasounds. But other than that, no tumors or anything seemed apparant. She is on a few different medications for her liver but she is going downhill. She has trouble just standing up. We have no idea if her weakness is even related to her liver. The vet is trying to do what he can, but we really have no idea what the problem is. If you have ever heard of anything like this please let me know. Thank you so much.

That unfortunantly is a hard one to answer because it could be so many contributing things.  There was someone else on here not long ago that said their dog had similiar problems and were seeking out a specialist.  On your girl....have they tested for other things such as thyroid t-3/t-4, kidney BUN levels, Cushings or diabetes?  It is understandable that the liver enzymes are high in an older dog, but is the kidney functioning well....Sometimes these signs you are describing can be related to the kidneys begining to fail...I would start there with your vet....

Welcome to the forum and I am sorry it is not under better circumstances, but I hope your girl gets to feeling better :)

Also check for tick-borne diseases; these can have many of the same symptoms you describe.  Frustratingly these tests often come back with a false negative, and many vets will start treatment for TBD even before the test comes back.  There is ample information on TBDs, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, etc. here:http://www.minden.com/nowhereelse/canine_tick_disease.htm
