Update on Charlie

I had posted earlier but Charlie is not vomitting anymore.  But he is refusing to eat anything.  When the vets did another xray today, she said that his intestines were empty and that he basically would not poop.  He will drink a bit of water, and he's gone from being playful to laying around.  The vet suggested exploratory surgery.  They are going to do that in about 10 minutes or so.  First off, she is going to check the stomach area and hope there is a blockage there only.  If it's in the intestines she stated things are more complicated.  Especially after the surgery.  Please remember my boy, if this doesn't fix the problem, I don't know what I'll do.  Between Sadie being fixed on Friday, Charlie's xrays and medicine yesterday, surgery today, I'll have paid the vets close to 1500 bucks.  I've got the money in savings but this is gonna be bad with bills, car ins., Christmas, and property taxes around the corner.  Might have to get a second job.

Poor Charlie.  I am right there with you on managing the money it is difficult and I am so thankful that Jessie has not had any problems.

Hopefully its just a blockage.  (( Healing vibes )) to Charlie!

We'll keep Charlie in our thoughts and prayers and send healing puppy vibes from all of us.  Hope that there isn't something seriously wrong and that they will be able to fix Charlie right up.  Keep us posted.
Oh boy...I was hoping for better news.  :(  I'll keep Charlie in my thoughts this afternoon, and will be eagerly awaiting an update to hear how he did in the surgery.
Maybe your vet could allow you to make payments, being that you are an established patient already? Good luck with everything. Hugs to you and Charlie......
I hope all is well with Charlie. Be sure to keep us updated.

Good vibes from Kaci and Milo!
Poor baby! I'm so sorry to hear this! Hopefully it will be an 'easy fix'. He'll be in our thoughts all day... keep us posted!!

I'm with Lisa... you should ask if there is a payment plan you could do. I had a vet like that in TX... it's extremely helpful!!
Boxer kisses from Kiah and hugs to Charlie from me.  Hope everything goes well for him; let us know as soon as you hear something.  We will pray it is nothing serious and the surgery takes care of it.
Tootsie, I think the vets have payment options, but you have to sign up with a credit card and pay interest.  We have the money, but I don't know to many people that would/could pay about 1500 bucks total including Sadie was spayed Friday.  Then turn around with 2 car payments, 1000/mo house payment, and 631 due in car insurance 11/11.  I've put a couple of my guns up for sale and I'm debating gettin a second job until the end of the year.  Now all the what if's are happening.  I just hope that nothing goes wrong with our house now, at least for 3 months or so.  It's weird how attached you get to dogs.  I told my wife when we first got Charlie that if he ever needed surgery or anything, I'd just put him to sleep.  Well now this little guy has got me worried to death and I'm the one that ok'd surgery, wife would have also.  But at around 1 1/2 yrs. old, I feel he's got alot of life left in him.  As soon as I hear from the vets, I'll post something.  It'll probably been anywhere from 2-4 hours from now though.  One positive note I guess is she said all of his bloodwork looked fine.

I hear you on the money situation. And yes, it is amazing how they work their way into your heart. It is funny, my husband was always the first to say "I would never spend that much money on surgery or treatment for an animal, I'd just put them down." Well, I can't even begin to tell you the amount of money we have spent on my previous boxer! Yes there are some things I would not put my animals through, but it was worth every penny, and we never looked back! They are like children, how can you put a price limit on what you would spend? Kind of hard to do, I think.
Another idea on the money situation would be to defer payments on either your cars or the mortgage payment. Even an extra month might help you catch up. Just another idea to think about.

Yes, Charlie does have a lot of life left in him. He will be all fixed up and back to his bouncy self in no time. Hopefully it will just be a blockage and he will be back to his bouncy self in no time.

Hoping for an uncomplicated recovery! Keep us posted!
I sure was hoping to hear better news than this....Hoping that Charley's surgery goes well and it isn't as bad as you think....One thing that Marq & I have always been in agreement on is the lengths we will go to for the dogs...He had a Jack Russel that had gotten into a terrible fight, that poor guy was a real mess, almost lost him and ended up spendiing over a $1000 at the vets..Would he do it again? Oh yea, in a heartbeat....Let us know what you find out about Charley and praying for a real easy solution and quick recovery
? loan with low interest to pay off a few right away? not a big one just a small one for a few months? i am not a big fan of borrowing money but sometimes its the lesser of 2 evils...jsut to catch up and keep things str8...

its a hard thing when the pups are sick...and it IS like kids..they are part of the family and my hubby was the same way about surgeries and money on dogs..hes from oklahoma lol..he used to say that dogs stya outside when its nice out..blah blah..ya well hes the same guy that wakes up with a 80 lb dog on his head..b/c HE called her up there ..hahaha...
when Isis chomped a kane toad here ( emits poison out their skin) he was in a frenzy driving to the vet...shelling out anything they asked for to make her better...( he didnt grow up with dogs or animals for that matter)

i hope things work out..we've all been there..will be thinking about you all over the next few hours and waiting to hear...ive been through that financing thing you are talking about and the interest is unreal !! they take advantage of your situation..i paid on that for 2 yrs..was awful..but of course worth it..my golden retriever was only 2 at that time and he lived to 16...

HUGZ TO YOU GUYS...

The vet called about 15 minutes ago.  She said they couldn't find anything in the stomach or intestines.  She said basically everything on the inside of his body was cleaned out.  She did find something on his spleen that she wants tested for cancer.  I'm supposed to meet with her at in a little over an hour.  Right now I'm thinking only to test the spot for cancer.  If it is cancer, I'll find out what is ahead financially.  I would definitely feel like a lowlife for puttin him to sleep if he has cancer but I cannot go into debt or risk losing my home over this.  I'm extremely frustrated.
JEEZ IM SORRY...

STAY POSITIVE...JUST BREATHE..I KNOW ITS HARD..JUST RELAX AND FIND EVERYTHING OUT FIRST..

IT MAY BE SOMETHING ELSE..

WE HAVE ALL BEEN THERE AND SOME PEOPLE CAN AFFORD IT AND SOME CANT..NO ONE WOULD JUDGE YOU..AND IF THEY DID THEN THEY ARENT FRIENDS..OF COURSE THE PERSON WHO JUDGES YOU HARSHEST IS YOURSELF BUT JUST WAIT FOR THE RESULTS FIRST...

AND THEN GO FROM THERE..IF IT IS CANCEROUS THEN THERE ARE OTHER ROUTES...IF ITS SOMETHING CHARLIE CAN LIVE FINE WITH AND NO PAIN...THEN THERE ARE ORGANIZATIONS FOR THAT...SOMEONE THAT CAN AFFORD IT AND WANTS TO DO IT..

I AM IN NO WAY TRYING TO SOUND HARSH PLEASE DONT TAKE IT THAT WAY..I AM JUST PUTTING MYSELF IN THE POSITION AND I HAVE BEEN THERE...ITS A TOUGH THING...

PLEASE KEEP US POSTED AND KNOW THAT WE ARE ALL HERE FOR YOU...

So sorry for Charlie and for you, I know how overwhelming additional and unexpected bills can be. Like you we have been faced with these and for us it all came down to quality of life for our pets. If a test a procedure can help or improve life, I'm all for it and like you hubby has taken on those extra jobs to cover it. Hoping your meeting with your vet is a positive one, waiting to hear how it goes.  Sending  healing vibes to Charlie.
The vet is sending whatever she got from the spleen to be tested for cancer.  She did say that if it came back positive, the spleen could be removed and that Charlie could have a normal life.  The next thing she mentioned which got to me was something to do with his asophogus (sp).  She said the outcome wasn't good.
I'm sure you are a wreck by now, I know I would be.
Kate, we're going ahead with all of the vets suggestions.
awww im sorry...youre head has got to be spinning...just breathe...and take it a step at a time..

we are all thinking of you guys...and keeping our fingers crossed...try to remain positive..i know its so hard but for your sake and Charlies ..

we are all here for you
