Just wondering if it is normal, but maybe about once a month Gaby will get up in early morning hours on an empty stomach and vomit what looks like mostly saliva and a bit of bile...anyone else's boxer do this?

Sharon, can you shed some light on this?

Hunger Pukes!

Because the stomach is empty it can cause a regurgation of bile and foamy siliva - Kash gets them now and again.   Some suggested spreaking out meals to three smaller ones, like 5am, 3pm, 10 pm to avoid it, and maybe Sharon has more insight.

What hanna said is probably right.  A lite snack before bed would probably help and also I have heard of a few others that had this problem and I think adding some yogurt helped....

Yep, Maddie will do that nightly if I don't give her yogurt every day.  I give her about 2 tbsp of lowfat plain yogurt everynight at around 9pm and problem solved.  If I even skip one evening on the yogurt, it is pretty much a guarantee I will be awakened at 2 or 3am to her puking up bile. Not too much fun to wake up to!  :?

I free feed Voltaire but he still does this too sometimes. It's usually because he hasn't been interested in food all day but has been eating grass :? Of course he always vomits on one of the rugs and not the tiles :roll:

No kidding! Why is it that they always find the carpet or rug and not the hardwood or tile floors?  They must have built in radar on how to make a mess!  If just once mine puked up somewhere easy to clean I would be happy!

I agree - sounds like good ol' boxer tummy to me. I feed a very late meal around 10 PM to prevent the early morning urkas.

I am so glad my pup is not the only one who does this. I was getting really concerned. I have gone to my friend and vet a number of times and have been told the same thing but it helps hearing that other boxers do it too. I am already feeding her a few small meals a day but will try the yogurt.

Does anyone have any ideas for when we go out of town ( to the Lake Tahoe area so it is higher elevation) and she refuses to eat and then since she has missed a meal she throws up bile a few times until she gives in to eating again.

As far as your girl refusing to eat, it's kinda like the old saying goes "you can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink"....if she has a certain treat she goes crazy for you can try giving her some to get her appetite going, but if this doesn't work I think you will just have to wait until she is hungry enough, even if it means putting up with a few urkas :lol:

puppys go through growth spurts... when Jessie was about 9 weeks she didnt eat for 2 days straight.  I called the vet freaking out and he said that sometimes they just dont want anything... he said believe me when she is hungry she will eat.

Lola had this problem a couple mornings in a row back when she was 3-4 months old.  We started feeding her a little later and the problem hasn't resurfaced, and it's been a year.  Lots of time now she eats around 6-7pm and doesn't have a problem in the morning.  Hell lots of time she eats at 6-7 pm and doesn't eat again until 1 pm the next day.  She is not a morning eater at all.

I'm starting to wonder if Duke's a normal boxer!  He's such an "easy keeper" as people in the horse business say.  He doesn't have the digestive issues mentioned in the above posts, thank God.  Previously, we rescued a boxer with mega issues (abuse victim, puppy mill mom, vomiting, bloody diahrrea, refused to house train, etc.), so I've put in my dues, so to speak.  I'm VERY happy to have a low maintenance dog this time!!
