Wow Andrea, that is terrible...I can understand why you wouldn't want to deal with them now....Bruyere , that definitely qualifies as a rescue story to me...Bless you for taking in little Oscar and giving him a loving, forever home....Glad he's doing better and it just reminds us all how unscrupulous people can be....
Everytime i go into a pet store I want to take every dog out with me.  It's hard to make the decision to rescue it from them while giving them money, which only fuels their fire, ya know!

When I was growing up, our family dog Lucy was a rescue.  She was a black lab/greyhound mix.  They had rescued her from a river in Northern Minnesota; someone had thrown 6 of her brothers and sisters into a sack and had successfully killed all but Lucy and her brother.  Lucy lived a long and fruitful life, dying last winter at 15.

How someone could be so heartless, I will never understand.  In fact, one of my neighbors in college lived on a farm where they would drown pups that weren't purebreds.  Obviously, after that conversation, I never really spoke with her anymore.

My aunt and uncle got a 4 month old Lasa (the same day we got Oscar) from the same place we got Oscar and she had a miner case of Kennal cough.  We both used the same vet at the time and she said she had seen numerous cases from the pet store we went to and had turned them in before and seeing our two dogs she turned them in again.  As far as I know they are still in business but have to keep a cleaner facility.

Oscar has had a lot of bad luck, he is allergic to a lot of medicens and breaks out in hives or in one case last Christmas Eve he swelled up and passed out, now that was scary.

Thank you all for your comments.

I know it's been a while since this post was going around but I wante to share my story.  We had a boxer in our lives for 10 years (well 5 for me. Hubby had he before we got together). and she past a year ago.  A few months went by and we decided to get another.  Found a woman who was selling her 1 1/2 year old female.  We got her.  We also had a cocker spaniel who recently passed.  We decided that Mo needed a playmate and we wanted another boxer.  I saw online that our local humane society had a 3 1/2 year old male.  I went to check him out and someone had already adopted him.  A week later I went back and he was back.  Supposedly the man and woman were getting divorced and the woman didn't want him so he took him back.  Not quite sure what he was doing there in the first place all I know is I am so glad that we have him.  His name is Niko.  He is so lovable and playful and a wonderful playmate for Mo.  Mo was a little jealous for a couple days.  It's only been about 2 weeks and they already love each other.  We couldn't be more happy with our new addition to the family and we just love him to pieces.

Very nice to see people adopting these little furry guys and gals.    If I had the time, money and space..........there would be "NO" Boxers left for anyone else to adopt.   I love em' all!   And I would have them all.

Amen to that Cuda!! Breaks my heart everytime I look at rescue sites and see all these lovely furbabies that certainly did not ask to be there, but due to lack of research, poor breeding, they have ended up in a shelter.

Now we have a founding member of LA rescue that has passed away and all her babies need to be re-homed and the outpouring of help is truly amazing!!!

My Boxer babies are rescues from the Lonestar Boxer Rescue here in Houston. We got Sampson when he was three months old (now 1.5 yrs) and just got Lucy about a month ago, and she is now 7 months old. Sam had kennel cough and mange and Lucy had both of those plus Giardia which we are currently treating. We are fortunate enough to have the funds to get these dogs back to healthy and give them the spoiled lives they deserve. These pups are our children and bring such joy to our lives  - I will always adopt and save a life!

Sky is my 3rd rescue, and I have loved my other two, Sammy and Billy just as much.  Sammy was 9 years old when I rescued him, and his love and affection and gratitude (not to mention puppy-like antics) just warmed my heart forever.  He crossed the bridge after likely the happiest 6 months of his life.  Then Billy, who was 2 yrs. when rescued, came into our hearts.  I thought it was not possible to love another like we had loved Sammy, but our Billy proved otherwise.  Such a wonderful, funny, noble friend!  He lived with us just 5 short years, then died peacefully in our arms in January, of mysterious causes.  Then Boxer Rescue Ontario (you are the most wonderful group of people on earth!!) informed us that they had rescued 5 dogs from a puppy mill, and one of the females had given birth to 6 pups -- and we could have one!  So here is Sky, all full of joy and antics, and already earned his place beside our Sammy and Billy.
So my thoughts?  Rescue a Boxer, of any age!!  They are all wonderful and will respond to your love and caring and give you so much more in return!

Although this thread is old, I have a wonderful story to share, so I am bringing it back!

My husband and I were looking for a dog for months and scouting all the local rescues, spca's, etc.  We both loved boxers but really wanted to rescue.  My husband's friend and his wife had just saved their second dog when she saw a boxer in the spca, called me and I was there in an hour!

When I met Buster for the first time he was so skinny his ribs and spine were showing, he had kennel cough, his coat was patchy (don't think it was quite mange), a runny nose and a runny eye.  He was in pretty bad shape, but like other's have said, his personality was shining through.  He was so nice and loving.  We have had him for four months now and I am excited everyday to come home and see him dancing around the kitchen (even though he sometimes pee's in excitement!)!  We got him at 2 years old and he was very well mannered... I just think to myself everyday, who could give this cute thing up?

Anyway, he has brought more joy to our life then you could imagine.
