I was at the human park today, as opposed to the dog park, and this guy was admiring my lovely now 7 month old big boy Cactus.  Since day one when I took him home, my dog has loved sand.... he will do the boxer burn all over it and then get to digging, which I allow at the human park since I don't allow it at home.  This guy was noticing how Cactus kept "getting the sand" (translation- digging in the sand) and went on to tell me that boxers were bred to hunt badgers and burrowing animals.  ?????????????? I had assumed that they were bred for hunting water fowl- the underbite being that way to allow the dog to breathe while carrying the bird and not crushing it.  So question one is- what were boxers bred for?

Next, the way Cactus digs is hilarious.  He will dig with one paw at first and then get to scooping with both paws at the same time doing a little hop as he clears out more sand...... is this a dog thing, a boxer thing or just a Cactus thing?

So is it just a Cactus thing that he uses both front paw and scoops as he is digging?
