When is the best heat to breed you boxer. I have reads several different answers onthis and have been asked in the past and want to get an opinion from experienced breeders.

IMO I think 3rd Heat is alright if the boxer is grown by then. What do you think...??

Breeding on this forum is a very touchy subject. As stated in the forum rules we do not condon unethical breeding (not stating you are, so please dont take offense) though we are open to discussion about ethical breeding and preserving the standard of our beloved breed. All ethical breeders miust start somewhere and should you want to become one i would suggest speaking with a local boxer club and getting intouch with reputable breeder in your area who can become a mentor and help you along the way. that said...as for which cycle would be best i think Jennifer (newcastle) can best answer this. Breeding should not be done though until at least 2 yrs of age and after all neccessary health testing is done on both the male and female boxer.

Oh this is understood. I have been talking to a couple good frineds and breeders who I got my boxers from and each have a different opinion on when they think is a good time from their experiences. I hope to start one day when my girl is older and ready but I want to get a good knowlegde of the breed and what to look for as an outcome. I am working on learning. Unfortunatly I moved to  MI and all my frineds are in Indiana and I have nobody here to talk to to get good conversation. Most here are all about fixing your dogs and rescuing the world. I am for the rescuing of dogs dont get me wrong my staffie is a rescued and so mwas hercules my first boxer. But there are a lot of people who want a well bred boxer and I would love to have 200000 of them... But I am waiting and learning until my girls is old enough and my finances are right so I can afford everyhting that comes before the breeding takes palce.

With that said...LOL
Ok, literally dont take offense to my post (please) its meant to be more informative than critical:)

If you want to start a breeding program, best way to start is to obtain a bitch that is to standard, health tested and breeding quality.

Attend some local dog shows.  Its a great way to meet breeders, boxer lovers and chit chat.  www.infodog.com has a listing of shows my state.  Also get involved in your local rescue or boxer club, another way to meet some boxer crazy people that also can provide some insight on your goals:)

Thanks HannaBanana I to am studying up. I want to make great dogs. Notmake a huge income from mass produceing boxers. I have an Registered Pedigrees and I seen medical papers, pictures and breeding hiostory of 3 generation back with them all. I did my research to get my dogs. Just doing more to breed them.
Ok, thats good, how about the questions??  - and no worries, not here to rip anyone a new one!!     Threads like this can become educational and asking questions is the best way to learn!

why do you want to breed your dogs???   What in your opinion makes your dogs breedable?

Thats good, research is key - without it you could possibly do more harm than good -   My Hanna has a registered pedigree, I know all the lineage, she comes from health tested parents however she is not breedable: - she does not adhere to the standard.

Well...

First my Dogs all (so far) meet AKC Breed Standards. The have no allergies, skin conditions or illnesses so far known. They are not over weight and come from a healthy well bred background of registered Boxers. MY Males both being Brindles should from what I have read give me Brindle Pups. Preston Being From a brindle father and Fawn mother and Peggy Sue Being From a Fawn Fawn with her being "flashy" should five me in hopes Flashy Brindles and some Flashy Fawns becuase both parents have a good amount of white and still un 1/5 of their coat is white. I hope to bred these two first.

I am hoping ot keep a Fawn Brindle or Bb mix with my leiiter to in hopes get a mixed coat. I hope Since Peggys Mom was primarily white and unshowable that that may give me some white with brindle patches by breeding her to Brutus who is Brindle mom and Brindle dad. The same effect may be obtainded by breeding her to preston.

These are the results I am hoping for that is why i am researching. I have been talking to Newcastle about this hoping for more information on ewhat to expect.

To continue My family all love my Boxers they keep saying"so when you bringing my dog back over" I reply with "yopur dog" They are well mannered, calm, and playful dogs and listen very well. I am hoping with this they will bring good mannered litters and extend their name as good parents.

Iw as a kid in JRHIGH and a friend of mine's parents bred dogs for a living. they had specific dogs people wnted and they researched. bopught, bred and sold litters for that reason. I dont want to try and breed for the sole perpose of income. I want to breed to get better looking Boxers who may one day be in show.

If you want more information please ask. I feel as if i had streached this out pretty far but will be glad toa dd more in any area that you would ask on.

Now (again - just asking questions) your first three paragraphs you mention coat color you are hoping to achieve, is this your main reason to acheive a certain color?  Or is there certain characteristics like topline, head, square body you are trying to acheive in your pups?

I hope Since Peggys Mom was primarily white and unshowable that that may give me some white with brindle patches by breeding her to Brutus who is Brindle mom and Brindle dad. The same effect may be obtainded by breeding her to preston.
If Peggy's mom has over 1.3 of her coat, then she should not have been bred in the first place (code of eithics) and hence Peggy could have these white or checked genes hence in reality she should not be bred from either - yes she can give more flash due to her lineage, but she can also produce having the white gene deaf and blind pups.  Deaf and blind comes from a lack of pigment carried out in dogs who are white.  - that just something I want to mention as a possible outcome of breeding her.

- You can plan and play with genetics, however its like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.  And genetics should come way below the topic of Health (IMO) and then the standard.  I would find a handler or someone with knowledge of the breed to evaluate Peggy (genetics aside) and find out if she is to standard or not.

Jennifer is a great resoure of knowledge!

I want to continue to get boxers that meet breed standards as far as looks and size, but I want to have them with interesting coats. I don't want to just breed anything with anything to get cool coats, I havent found any PROOF that white boxers are prone to deafness and blindness IMO it is a farce cry to stop their breeding, a scare tactic. Again I dont know for sure but have found no proof to that topic.  But I dot want to start a White Boxer debate so I will drop that issue and not coment on it again from this point on.

I love booxers. I would love to have a checkered brindle and a Seal Brindle if these are the current names for the coats. I feel as if looking into what makes this accur and breeding for that purpose is ok. If someone wants to buy one of my litter I am fine. If no body wants any of them... I am ok there too. If someone buys one and brings it back cool by me. I have no problem collecting 1000000000000000 boxers. (my pocket might no like it, but it will adjust accordingly)

Just because your dogs have no allergies, skin conditions or illnesses, and come from healthy well bred background of registered Boxers does not mean your dogs meet the breed standard.
A boxers looks and temperament are the way they are because that is what the Standard says they should be. If boxers are being bred without conforming to the breed standard, we are going to create two different types of boxers. We will have the "show" boxer and the "pet" boxer which are going to become two entirely different looking dogs.
The best way to determine whether a dog is to the standard is to put it in the show ring to be judged by someone who has studied the standard. When there are several different dogs in the show ring, you can easily see the differences and/or faults in the dogs. We all love our dogs, and think they are beautiful and the best dogs ever, however without being involved in showing and having your dogs judged on the breed standard, you really wouldn't have any idea if your dogs are meeting the breed standard.  The main reason behind dog shows is to pick out the ones that are up to the standard and are of breeding quality.
If you are considering breeding at all, you should be breeding only those dogs that come from reputable breeders that have been fully health tested AND fit the Standard.

Honeslty if your main force to breed is "interesting coats", then maybe fashion designer should be more up your alley ( )

Give me about 10 minutes ( I am eating lunch and will find plenty of articles on the white gene and why it really should not be bred from.  I am not saying that its forbidden, however you greatly increase the risk of passing on that white gene.    And I know the white boxer thing is always a hot topic but about 95% of forums will all agree they should be fixed and placed in pet homes.
THis is from Newcastle's Site. Since she is of good refrence here her opinion should be taken too.

To continue. Notice the perois between the words "Standards. The"
Rich -

I am very familar with Jennifer and her site, I have known her for two years as well as met her at the ABC this past May.
I personally feel that everybody should take a break from breeding until all the dogs and cats in shelters and rescues have homes. I don't understand why people continue to breed... Makes no sense to me.
Anybody want to help me brush up on my English? I have a test to take :(
