I'm so glad you have the fortitude to stay in this forum and fight for your dog. This post has flushed out most of the heavyweights in the Boxer world. We are all lucky to have a place like this to come to for help. Sometimes the Big Guns get so passionate that it can come off curt, but everyone ultimately really wants to help you and your dog.

Owenowlsnest said something that I believe. If you keep working on this and get through this you might end up with the best dog you have ever had.

Good for you!

No problem, while I do go off the rails on occasion!

These days, I have calmed "waaayyyy" down I think?? Still got dinged for slamming FB'ers on "here" not sure that was fair??

But.... I misread you way back when! I'm sorry I did that!

On the GSDForum we have one tool...I call him Mr IPO! And he comes on and ticks a whole bunch of us off!!! I spent one day PM'ing members and apologizing for him!!

In one of the numerous "closed threads" in his wake ... (happens a lot there

I posted this first:

And then this:

Yeah, that last one was too much! The E-Collar Button" was hit on all of us and out came the closed sign!

Guy is a tool, if he can't play nice with "Pet People" then he should stay in the IPO forum!

But I learned from another poster on there he was ticking off! She told him "It's not what you say, it's how you say it!" Wise words for those who think!" Don't know if "Mr IPO" is in that category?? We kinda stay clear of each other!

So that being said, ... yet again I want to apologize to you! I know we had a run in awhile back and I misread you! I figured I was out here alone??? And I was still in "take no prisoners" mode and you came into view!

In retro spec once the "red zone" mist was gone! I actually saw that your post are "filled" with valuable information! And you cover the "finer" points that I tend to glaze over! I tend to go more "global" in my recommendations and approach!

That being said yes a "Balanced Trainer" and I "assumed" that is what you meant!

If you noticed here, I did take your critique to heart!:
https://www.boxerforums.com/1733361-post30.html

I was impressed! And that is how you deal with the "Bad Dogs" as it were! So thank you for that!

Long way of saying...sorry for the misunderstanding!:

That said...carry on folks!

When I first adopted my boxer she was 9 months old and had a lot of behavioural issues. I found it was useless trying to train her until I drained her energy, which was nearly impossible to do because she is deaf so I couldn't trust her at the dog parks, and being on leash did absolutely nothing for her energy. I had a friend with a similar aged lab who had a huge backyard, so we would go over there every couple of days and the dogs would play until they were exhausted (usually took 3-4 hours of play!). I'm just wondering if your dog has ever been exercised to the point of exhaustion, and if not, how that might help his "attacking" you. It sounds like he has a great deal of pent up energy, and usually excess energy in a boxer equals bad behaviours.

First off, Chip…. that is one cool pic on the ice.

Now I am going to be a putz here. I have a rather over dominant and slightly ( ok maybe overly aggressive boxer ) He is 19 months old. My dog will try to play with me like that
one the OP has every chance he gets. They are bully dogs, and, if they have no K9 to play with will try that act on people. The more european blood the worse the dominance i find.

Like I said I am a putz here. But as some one so rightly posted, HOMIE doesn't play.

Your boxer buddy might just need a GSD to play with. My 10 yr old GSD keeps my boxer played out enough I can live with him. Or he would be just like yours. I am going to suggest he doesn't know how to play with people. And perhaps has to much energy locked inside him.

Just an FYI here. A lady here this summer at the dog park got clipped by a boxer on full burn. Many broken bones ensued as a result. The docs in the ER basically called her lier when she claimed a dog hit her. They thought she was a victim of a hit and run with a truck and called the police. You can google that on CTV news Saskatoon for the full story. Boxer was fine, didn't even fiz him

Nope not ice water like Jesus! Mr IPO was ticking everybody off that day!!!! And "logic" was having no impact! So I quit trying and started hunting images! Kinda what I do!

Oh...back on point as it were! I understand what you are saying ... but the answer would be a firm "NO" here for a second dog!

If you happen to have a second dog already, that's one thing but planning on that as a solution ... is not the best idea!

On rare occasions, it can work. My daughter in law had a rescue Great Dane that suffered severe S/A, destroyed furniture, crates and the SUV!!! She could not leave him home alone for more than 30 minutes! It went on for years and she was going the drug route and all the other "standard things that don't work and big surprise ...they made no difference for him.

Her solution turned out to be another dog, she got another Chihuahua and the Dane fell in love with that dog all his issues disappeared! That did happen, but it was not a plan!

Before adding another dog a good rule of thumb, is it's always best to have one well-trained dog without issues before adding a second!

And the more exercise and tire them out thing??? Of course, the dog needs exercise but... A poster on GSD tried that. He told us that by running his dogs 8 miles every day what he had created was a well-conditioned athlete of a dog that could go for hours!!!

The best approach is not often the most obvious! But ...as I say "Train an off switch, train calmness into the dog!" The OP regardless of everything else should be doing these:

Sit on the Dog:
Energy - it's all about confid-tude

And the Place Command:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIGq...olidK9Training
The Magic Of Duration Work | The Good Dog Life Blog

The OP can do those things himself without spending a dime! And they will go a long way to addressing a lot of his issues!

Sit and wait for food (NILF stuff) not my thing others can provide specifics!

But no sleeping in the bed, no free roaming in the house or up on the furniture, those are "privileges" for a dog not "rights" and they have to be earned! If the dog is in the house ...he should be in his crate or in "Place!"

Oh I have no problem believing that! I don't know how fast a Jack Rabbit is, but they could not shake Struddel on a straight road out here in the desert!

Pretty sure they can hit at least 30 mph and she'd be a boxer length behind them! The JR's, however, would always make a hard right into the brush and then back down the straight! She'd make the cut with them and "always" lose them when they cut back onto the straight! She never figured that one out!

So yeah getting clipped by one would do some damage "especially" if one is elderly! That should not have been "allowed" to happen!

Just a quick update we have located a behaviorist / trainer from references. He should be getting evaluated during the week. In the mean time we are focusing on NILIF and trying to get some sort of manners from him. We will keep you updated after his evaluation. Thank You everyone
