Default Strongly Considering adding a Boxer to our family

After a few months of research, a lot of reading and even more conversations about getting a dog, we might finally be at that point. We are looking at Boxers for a lot of different reasons; but I would really like to hear from the community here about your experiences with Boxers. This will be our first dog. Thanks!

You are in for a massive goofy lap dog that will push your nerves to the brink and I would not have it any other way...

Boxers are the most loyal dogs I have ever seen

Boxers are the best dogs! They are good with children, great watchdogs, and the biggest loyalist , butt wagging, sloppy kissing dog you will ever own!
We are getting ready to add our 2nd one to our family.
They become your baby..
Oh yeah they are lap dogs!

What is your home life like?
And your work schedules?
Do you go to a lot of functions on weekends or evenings?

Boxers need lots, and I mean lots of exercise and attention and training.
They are stubborn, energetic, mischievous.
They cannot tolerate living outside or extremes in temperatures.

They are people dogs, have to be near their humans.
They will tear up your yard, eat your possessions, take up your bed and steal your heart. They are FAMILY

Are you ready for that kind of challenge?

Welcome from NJ, btw

This YouTube says it all

This is a day in the life with a Boxer! They are super high energy and require lots of exercise. They are great alert dogs, but not protection as they are chickens. They are messy, high maintenance and always just want to play, they need human contact and lots of it, they have sensitive tummies and sensitive feelings, and they are so incredibly loyal and honest and this earns them the spot as the only breed I ever want! They have the most character out of any breed I have ever known. They are all this plus your best friend for life.

Plus they love kids and they are gentle giants.

At least this is all my personal experience with any one I have met. I am sure as with everything there may be exceptions. They need lots of training and socialization as well, and proper introduction to kids.

Just make sure you have the time for them because it is not fair to this wonderfully loving breed if you don't. They can be lots of work

To answer a few questions: We have 2 children, ages 6 and 3 1/2. I am a full time Mom and am at home most of the time.

I looked a little at pet insurance, but I don't know anything about it. Is that what you were talking about?

I got my 1st boxer 1 month ago, I have always had GSD's. He is such a very good boy. Smart, cute, loving and super funny. He just wants to be with you. He's awesome with all the kids that traipse through our house, and I did get him insured through VPI(yes pet insurance) it was a small price to pay for my piece of mind that if he ate something (he eats EVERYTHING) or needed an ER vet visit I wouldn't be overly stressed about the vet bills. He's been an awesome addition to our family!

Yes I was meaning pet insurance, there are lots out there. Personally I am with Trupanion. It does give you peace of mind, because boxers are mischievous the last thing you want to be doing is worrying financially when your best little buddy needs help.
