Default Help - Harry the Howler

Hi can anyone offer me any advice? x
We have a 17 week old boxer called Harry. We love him to bits . Hes a great character very well behaved during the day and house trained but, he becomes possessed of a night time.
He goes to bed about 10pm but, howls every night about 2.30am. Harry is let out for the toilet - no rewards or cuddles then put back in his crate - (he sleeps here only of a nightime)or when we go out during the day - then howls constantly till we get up at 4.30am. We have tried to train him with his crate by sitting with him and offereing him treats in there. I first thought it was seperation anxiety - so I have started to leave him for a bit throughout the day so he gets used to his crate aswell. The lack of sleep is driving us and the neighbours potty. Harrys crate is in the utilitie room and his cushion for daytime is in the family room.
We are in a rented home so we are paranoid incase he damages anything - hence we thought a crate would be more secure for Harry and for us.
I was thinking of putting the crate in the family room during the day with his cushion in then moving it back into the utility room of a night - help ...any advice would be great xxxx

Is there room for his crate next to the bed?
It helps a lot if you are just able to reach your hand down to reassure him at night.

No not really the room is small.
Harrys only just started doing this over the last 2 weeks too. He was fine before. Ive thought of what Ive changed to make him feel less secure.Ive also tried giving him his last meal earlier so he isnt panicing to go to the toilet.
Do you think if I put his crate in the family room with his day cushion - this would help him feel more secure about his crate at a night - or do you think this will confuse him and make things worse?
Really appreciate your help xxx

hey chellcaldwell, does harry get enough exercise during the day?? two major reasons for howling are.. boredom or anxiety.. try to get him tired before bed time.. might solve your problem. will sleep like a rock. i know my maya does.
