Default Trifexis!!!

Hi,

I have an eight month old boxer puppy named, Tyson. This past Saturday for the first time I gave him trifexis. He has been scratching/bitting himself, I haven't seen any fleas but I thought I better get one month of trifexis and try it out. He had a horrible reaction a couple hours after taking it. He wouldn't eat or drink and just laid there on the floor. Since then I have read multiple horrible reviews on line some even causing death! If I would have known this, I would have never given it to him. So, I would like to hear opinions on which heartworm meds to use, or flea heartworm combination? Or if I should just look up natural ways to prevents fleas and heartworm? Because now I am scared to give him anything & I defenitly lost all trust in my vet. Please let me know what y'all give your boxers!!

Thank you!!

Well, Dutch was on Triflexis from his very 1st vet visit up until probably 3 months ago. He never experienced any of the horrible side affects that I had heard others on here and in the news talking about. Until..... He had to increase to the 60-120lb. tablet. He threw up 3 days straight. Walked @ like a zombie, his eyes were just glassy and he wasn't his usual playful self. Those symptoms, added to the others I had read about, were enough for me to make the decision to stop the medication.

I actually decided to read up in the holistic section and now am treating Dutch with natural remedies. There are also posts on Triflexis u can read upon in the health section, I believe? But it sounds like you stopped meds so now it's just deciding to treat or not. I'm just testing with vet in the spring and fall like was suggested. Lots of great info on here about this topic! Good luck for you and especially your furbaby!!! ~Misty~

Dutch is now 18 months, sorry! He was on Trifexsis from about 8 or 10 weeks maybe up to 15 months. It took that long to affect is immune system or whatever it affects! ~Misty~

I had the exact same experience with the trifexis. I will never give it again it also caused upset stomach and vomiting in my puppy. He is now on heartguard and doesn't have any problems with it. For fleas and ticks I use the ones you apply down the back it seems to be working well for us so far.

it is not your fault. You were guided by someone who is in a position to gain peoples trust.

My vet tried to sell me this. They said its hocus-pocus all the fuss on it. I didn't trust them because I google everything firstly and had read the reviews on a website that seems to no longer exist.

Personally I would give mine hartguard after learning what other boxer people use. And fleas I wouldn't do anything for unless she got them, at which point I would get revolution from the vet.

I truly hope your pup is healthy again soon. And spread the word about Trifexis because the people have to speak as the vets won't.

Mine never had a reaction to it but it is pretty nasty stuff from what I've read. I used it for about a year on both of mine only because Sentinel mysteriously vanished from shelves across the nation. However, Sentinel returned about 6 months ago so mine are back on that.

My dogs will actually chew Sentinel willingly in their kibble; however, they won't touch Trifexis without a fight. I am glad that they're back on Sentinel, even though I don't like giving them either one.

That is scary! I hope your pup makes a full recovery!

When we were giving heartworm/flea/tick meds we used Revolution.

We choose not to give any meds now as we live in an area where the threat of heartworm is minimal.

Dumb question, is Sentinel only for fleas or heart worm and fleas?

Heartworms and fleas.

My two are on Sentinel. They actually get their doses today. My Tyson has been on it since he was a year old. Here in GA we have a huge risk of heartworms and my mom's dog even hada heavy infestation of heartworms (she was a rescue). Now the entire family is on Sentinel.
