Hello everyone, I live in Berlin/Germany with my 5 year old Boxer-Girl. I always liked Boxers but she made a total fan of me. I like the idea to have conversations here with Boxer-Fans all over the world, especially about what's typical about Boxers.
I just removed the picture.
What I would like to know: Are there Boxers who are not ball-addicts?
If one would raise a puppy without ever let him play with a ball, would he (as an adult) ignore a ball or could he also be a ball-junkie like the one who always played with a ball?
I think being a ball dog has more to do with the drive the dog has which is bred into them. I have som dogs who have always had access to balls but couldn't be bothered with them. I have other that have never seen balls and the moment they do they go crazy for them.
Hi welcome to boxer forum, my boxer is ball mad, we use it as a tool for keeping her interested when we are in the woods. She has a very high prey drive which is not good for my nerves. Sometimes we don't take a ball and she plays with other dogs more.
Duke has a ball that squeaks he likes that here and there, but not a big "ball" guy. When Sam the boxer comes over to play, Duke is than all about playing with a ball because Sam loves balls. Duke does love stuffie toys, he always has to get a baby to "show" us when we come in the house it's cute..
I've been on the forum for several years but never posted. I just had to put down my three year old girl because she went into heart failure. She had a defective tricuspid valve and ARVC. The cardiologist said she had at best 6 months, with loads of meds and no playing. Not a life for a boxer. I'm looking for info on a couple of out of state breeders, I'm in NE Ohio, because I don't trust the breeders in my area.
Is that not a problem for you? My dog is used not to go on the street (where the cars drive) but I am not sure: If there are kids there in the summer, they have always balls with them. And if she sees a ball, she would run there and steal the ball from the kids. So I always have to be careful or put her on the leash. Actually I try to make my "whistle back" perfect, so that she would come back to me even if she sees a flying ball hundred meters away.
