Default Anal sac tumor -adenocarcinoma

Hello...my old man 14 now, recently had an intestinal infection where they found a mass in his anal sac while doing a rectal exam. The tumor is small but the specialist thinks we are probably dealing with a malignant cancer in the anal sac. I have debated back and forth about doing surgery to remove it. He is still a active senior that loves his walks, still engages in play and loves to eat. I have learned that adenocarcinoma very aggressive but the internist said that she did not see anything in his lymph nodes when doing the ultrasound. Also that there id a better success when the tunor is small. Does anyone have any experience with this? He is scheduled for surgery on Wed. Thank you for any info.

Sorry to hear about this - When my male fawn Max was 7 he was diagnosed with the same thing. We had the surgery and he lived almost another 3 years - we had to unfortunately put him down on New Years Day this year. I wish you luck.

Thank you for the well wishes!

Calimike that is encouraging for for the additional 3 years with Max. It must have been so hard to say goodbye. My heart goes our to you. Did you see an oncologist after removal? I want to make him as comfortable as possible to enjoy the rest of his golden years.

Thankfully the rain has subsided and we are going to spend the afternoon at the beach before his surgery tomorrow.

Oh yeah - we were in it to win it. He saw an oncologist after that and then was on chemo pills for almost 2.5 years. His oncologist was actually the lady who put him down, and yes it was devastating. I was inconsolable that day.

I am new to the form so I am not sure how this works. I have replied to a couple posts but only 1 of the 3 show up. So I am not sure if they have to be approved first.

Calimyke thanks for the info. With your screen name are you in California? My old man is havingoing surgery tomorrow in Tustin and a friend recommended Dr. Julie who is an oncologist in Tustin as well. If you are local I would be interested in knowing about your oncologist. Thanks

Wanted to update you all on my old man. Just wanted to update everyone. Dr Cambridge called earlier said that the tumor was completely enclosed and hadn't invaded any walls like he thought. He did notice an ectopic heartbeat tho on the ekg while doing the surgery. He is awake wrapped in a warm blanket doing well. Thank you all for your positive energy
