Acana vs. Taste of the Wild

Has anyone used both Acana and Taste of the Wild and compared the difference in the poop department?

My boxer girl has been on raw for the past 2 years and she did really well on it, but for various reasons I want to do a kibble diet for a while and see how it goes.

Both my dogs have been on Taste of The Wild for the past week and both are doing great on it. However, my boxer poops a lot, relative to her food intake - she currently gets appx 2.3 cups per day: 1 cup in the am, 1.3 cups in the evening. I found that any more than that and her stools would become soft and she would poop way too much. The 2.3 seems to be enough for her to be happy, and for her to have good poop and not so much of it. She's 46 pounds. My poodle mix does not have the excess poop problem, he poops the same as he did when he was on raw, about 2-3 times per day. But my boxer poops a lot more, usually more than 4 times per day.

I'm wondering if Acana would make any difference in how much she poops. I have been hesitant to try Acana because of the cost, and because my vet advised against high-protein kibble for her. But now I'm wondering if I should try it out.

Sad to see you switch from raw to kibble, especially being they were doing well on it. Likely your dog isn't taking in the nutrients in yet,or isn't processing the kibble resulting in larger amount of stool, and every dog will handle the change differently. Did you feed a prey model raw diet?
I don't like taste of the wild for the fact of the recalls, but many members here have had good luck feeding this .. If I were to put Duke back on kibble I would choose Acana hands down.. Canadian made, they use quality ingredients... You could try the limited ingredients line..
Hi - I did feed a prey model raw diet and it just got to be too much work recently. My boxer is a really messy eater and I felt that I was constantly cleaning up after her. And she's a very big eater too so it was a struggle to keep enough food for her on hand. We're also going to be doing some traveling this year and the family member who will be dog sitting for us wants nothing to do with a raw diet, so I figured it would be best to acclimate them to dry food now.

I'm using the grain-free food and she's actually been doing great on it. No diarrhia or loose stools at all. I think maybe I was unprepared for how much boxers poop. I think that's why she's so skinny!

I too had to move Duke back to kibble from raw. I felt guilty at first, but I now realize that having that added stress gone (we have a lot of other stuff going on in our lives right now) made me a happier person, so that's a good thing!

We are feeding the Acana Regionals line and I'm a huge fan! Duke is doing amazingly well on it. He has a beautiful glossy coat, his breath isn't bad, he doesn't have a "dog" smell (except for his feet). He also has nice solid poops on it and he only poops 1-2 times a day, sometimes 3 at the most.
Hi - How often do you feed Duke?

With raw I was feeding once a day but with kibble I started with twice a day - morning and evening - figuring that would be easier on her tummy and allow her to absorb the most nutrients. However, some mornings she's not very interested in eating. She keeps looking to eat at her old schedule. I wonder if it would be best to bring her back to that.

Congrats on the low poop frequency! :clap2: It's the little things that bring us joy...

And I have to admit, I'm much happier feeding kibble for now. It does relieve a lot of stress for me too.
