My almost 8 month old male boxer is only 56 lbs. is this average size or a bit on the smaller size?

Mine is almost 5 and he weighs anywhere between 65-70lbs on average, his weight flucuates.

Around 8 months they are about 85% of their adult weight. My guesstimate is he will average out about 65lbs as an adult. Which is normal.

Depending on the bloodlines and sex, from what I've seen boxers tend to be anywhere from 45-90lbs... They're all different as far as growth rates go, yours could be done growing up (still filling out) or he/she could keep growing for the next year +... Both of my dogs (boxer mixes) grew like weeds until they were about 8-9 months old, then the female pretty much stopped... the male grew and grew, but more slowly... Now they are 1 yr (female) and 1yr 8mos (male) and I'm not entire convinced they both aren't still growing... It's definitely slowed way down either way...

Our first boxer was 57 pounds at 8 months, and very lanky. By one year he was starting to fill out a bit. If he had lived longer, I was expecting him to reach 65-70 pounds based on the size of his parents. Last weekend I was cleaning up our office and I compared the vet records between him and our new puppy, who is 13 weeks now. So far, the new pup has consistenly been 5 pounds heavier at each vet visit, so maybe he'll be a big one. It sounds like your pup is right on track.

It really all depends on the parents - like everyone else said. just like people, a dog's weight and size will vary.

Right now Gus is about a week shy of being 1 year old and he's about 65 pounds. His mama was small but I have never seen his dad in person (both were rescued from a puppy mill so their health and breeding was not top-notch).

Micky weighed about 52 at 8 months... but he is also pretty underweight. However, looking at pictures from the day we brought him home to seeing him now, you can tell he put weight on. Which kinda scares me to know what he really will be like when he reaches his full potential. We don't want to put weight on too fast, but we are keeping a close eye on his build.

As long as your pup is happy and healthy, all is well.
